Fishing

After unlocking the beginner rod, you can equip it in your ranged inventory slot to fish. Different regions of Addawatte boast different fish. As of now, each region contains at least four types of fish at different rarity levels. Chum can be caught with ease, but all other fish require patience, and possibly upgraded gear.

Two Part Process

First, you must cast your line somewhere in the water and wait. While waiting, you can study the location you’ve selected, hopefully finding a school of fish. If you don’t find anything, move squares and keep studying. Fish have a chance to bite anywhere in the grid, but schools give a much higher bite frequency. Once a school has been found, catching a fish will identify that fish type for all future times you find the same school (including across other scenes).

Once a fish is hooked, you can either Auto-Reel or battle the fish manually. Auto-Reel has a lower success rate but requires much less focus. A manual fish battle involves performing various moves in an effort to reel the fish all the way in.

Note: Certain items allow you to study additional squares once every 10 minutes, meaning you can find fish faster.

Fish Fight

Every turn of a fish fight, the fish will perform an action. You can see the next three rounds of fish actions coming up, and you can choose from a number of randomized actions of your own. The goal is the reel the fish in, but choosing reel-in actions may damage your line, giving the fish a higher chance of escape. Similarly, missing an opportunity to reel in may mean the fish gets further and further away. Tire the fish out, or sink the hook in deeper, to slow the fishes escape and increase the quality of each Pull card.

Gear and Upgrades

Higher quality rods and bait increase the odds of reeling in a fish, and hooking a fish on your line. This means rare fish are less rare and easier to catch when using better bait and rods. Golden hours and storms also increase the frequency of fish bites, and fishing XP increases your fish bite chance in general.

When hunting a rare fish, you can toggle common fish off in the “interests” tab, meaning you’ll ignore those fish, guaranteeing any bite you get is from a rarer creature.

Uses

Fish can be sold at fish markets, or can be processed into certain valuable items for use in crafting.

The roadmap includes many additional uses for fish, including cooking and crafting rare items.
